Pelo que eu sei, “confie, mas confira” é um provérbio russo. Um conselho sábio para os tempos que vivemos. Eu enfatizaria: confie, mas verifique. Sempre. Especialmente quando é algo em que você quer acreditar ou tem interesse.

As far as I know, “trust, but verify” is a russian proverb. A wise advice for the times we are living. I would emphasize it: Trust, but verify. Always. Specially when it is something you want to believe or has stakes.
A recurring (kinda)joke in my circles is “Blockchain is solution looking for a problem to solve”. Now we can move on step forward and say “Blockchain is a non-solution with bigger and novel problems we now need to solve”.
Security researchers have recently discovered a botnet with a novel defense against takedowns. Normally, authorities can disable a botnet by taking over its command-and-control server. With nowhere to go for instructions, the botnet is rendered useless. But over the years, botnet designers have come up with ways to make this counterattack harder. Now the content-delivery network Akamai has reported on a new method: a botnet that uses the Bitcoin blockchain ledger. Since the blockchain is globally accessible and hard to take down, the botnet’s operators appear to be safe.

I really like this quote from Zeynep Tufekci, a researcher on artificial intelligence, machine learning and society. She was feature in the Coded Bias documentary, a great look at some of most pressing problems of our age. If you have the opportunity to watch it, please, do it. Now available on Netflix.
After watching the docmentary, I suggest you should also watch her TED talk: Machine intelligence makes human morals more important.
